It’s 5:00 somewhere…
After yesterday’s post, I received a few inquisitive texts from curious friends...While I certainly wasn’t trying to imply anything (except that I’m uber excited for my expectant mother friends,) I thought I’d do a 180 and post on another fun subject…Cocktails!
These drinks are not only pretty to look at, they sound delicious (orange sherbet is an ingredient!) , I can’t wait to try one this weekend!
Watermelon and Strawberry Mojitos
See the recipe here.
The June Bug
Ingredients:
- 3 cups ginger ale
- 4 T. grenadine
- 4 T. orange juice
- 3 scoops orange sherbet
- To make a version with alcohol, add 1/2 orange vodka
Directions
Blend together ginger ale, grenadine, orange juice, and sherbet. Pour into ice-filled cocktail glasses.
The Michelada
Ingredients
- Fresh lime juice, about an ounce, or one lime’s worth. I like to save the squeezed half-hull to cap the drink, to incorporate the aromatics of the oil into it as well.
- Maggi Seasoning
- Salsa picante (bottled hot sauce)
- Worcestershire sauce
- Soy sauce
- 1-3 ounces tomato juice
- Beer, 12 ounces
Directions:
Use a pilsner or other tall beer or cocktail glass; a 20-ounce cooler or imperial pint works beautifully in that it allows for the ice, the additives and an entire 12-ounce bottle of beer. Cut a small lime wedge and use it to moisten the rim of the glass, then invert it onto a saucer of kosher salt, or salt mixed with chili powder. Fill the glass with as much or little ice as you wish. Then use whichever of the following ingredients fit your mood, pouring the beer in last. Do experiment with lavish versions compared to more stripped-down ones to see which you like best. Salud!

Nursery Rooms
Several close friends have recently learned they are bringing little ones into the world, so I’ve had nurseries on the mind. I’m so impressed with the level of sophistication nurseries have started to take on. Here are some of my favorites:
For little girl babies…
Love this from the amazing Nicole Cohen at Sketch 42 (featured in Rue Magazine – Issue 3)
and for a girl-child by the admirable Sally Wheat
and doubles for sisters, designed by Palmer Weiss
For little boy babies…
This is my all time favorite nursery room. I’ve even sent it to friends that I know are having little boys. How cool is that longhorn painting!? I also love the color scheme and simplicity, but I’m going to tell myself the floor is faux animal…
and for a boy-child.
And for either gender:
Designed by the amazingly talented Lee Kleinhelter
Love this wall – what a great way to learn the ABC’s
and how cute is the elephant hamper? Love it.
I want to sleep here with three of my besties.

For more nursery inspiration, one of my favorite new bloggers, Sheridan French, posted great gender neutral options here.

Thinking Pink.
Today is National Pink Day…No really, that’s a holiday.
I find this fitting because when I look through my recent snags, most have at least a touch of pink! I love the energy and cheerfulness a little pink can bring to a room or an outfit. What do you think of pink? What’s your favorite color combination? I am loving anything with pink and orange these days. Especially in ikat or tie dye.
Best.Tablescape.Ever! This would be perfect for a bridal shower…

Port A 2011!
Every year I look forward to an annual Girls Trip to Port Aransas (aka Port A)…Attended by a group of girlfriends from UT, without a doubt it is one of my favorite weekends of the year. We stay in a gorgeous home (courtesy of Ashley’s parents) and spend the weekend relaxing, catching up, sipping adult bevs, and enjoying getting away from it all...
My favorite things about Port A:
- Girls Night In – at least one night we stay in, cook, play games and catch up over wine.
- The Dump at Virginia's – as unappetizing as this sounds, this is actually a lovely dish served at one of the few dining establishments in Port Aransas.
- Bernie’s – the local bar complete with black light, neon splatter paint and a plethora of sleeveless shirted men in their fifties
- Ordering Corona’s “dressed”
- The Shirt – Five years ago, we started collecting ridiculous/hilarious quotes that came out over the weekend. Every year we revisit and add to the shirt. It’s a great way to capture memories.
Here’s a trip down Port A memory lane…

Courtney Cox’s Beach House
The pictures of Courtney Cox’s Malibu home and the 100 degree Houston weather have me dreaming of ocean views and a breezy beach. The inside, though stark and slightly cold in my humble opinion, would do as well.
um, nice view.
fire pit!
Patio outside master bedroom
Yes, this will work.
Love the natural light, but I think it could use more color.
again with the lack color…
Quirky and fun…now if only the rest of the house would lighten up… literally.

That's Bull...
If you have been and experienced such a thing, will you tell me how you felt about it...Would you go, or would you suggest touring the town instead...? Thoughts and opinions welcome!
