Unbroken...

I just finished reading an amazing book, Unbroken, by Lauren Hillenbrand - the author of Seabiscuit. It's a true story covering the life of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner who is drafted for WW II and ultimately captured as a POW after surviving an airplane crash and drifting on the Pacific ocean for 47 days. The timeliness of it made such an impact on me, and this Memorial Day has taken on a new meaning than it has in the past. Admittedly, when I think of this holiday, images of sleeping in, grilling and pool time come to mind, but thanks to such a beautiful story, I will reflect more on those that have lost lives serving our country and their families...

Pretty outdoor spaces

The warm weather and a craving for Vitamin D have me lusting for sunshine and the outdoors with the option for shade of course. Aren’t these spaces beautiful?image

Plate Love.

A couple of years ago, I decided I wanted to start collecting something unique.  I love the idea of being on a constant hunt to add to a collection.  As much as I would love to collect Tory Burch flats or purses, it seems more reasonable to go with something  less expensive.  Luckily,  I’ve stumbled on some lovely, funky plates from the clearance sales of Anthropologie, West Elm, and various flea/antique markets.  I love my plates, and have been wondering how to get them out of the cabinet and put them on display.  Currently I have a weak collection (3 identical chevron plates) displayed on a wall that is begging for more.

The picture below was the exact inspiration I’ve been looking for (without realizing it).  Since it doesn’t seem like a great idea to put a bunch of holes in our wall when we’re moving in less than 3 weeks, I think I’ll tuck this away for our new place…

What do you think?  Do you like the collection of plates below?  I wouldn’t mind that amazing lamp and converted bar cart either!

White Hot…

Aren’t these just the prettiest spaces?  Too much white used to bore me, but now I appreciate it so much more – especially when the space is bright and airy and includes pops of color…Perfect to get into the spirit of Summer!

Inspired by Orange.

I love Orange.  I’m so glad it exists.  Maybe it’s because I’m a longhorn, or maybe it’s because it’s just so darn fun.  Either way, every time I tell my mom I want a new dress/accessory/piece of decor, she asks “Is it Orange?” Orange is extremely versatile and can make a statement anywhere…

Happy Weekend!

What are you doing this weekend?  Tonight we’re trying a Vietnamese place I’ve been hearing about for years, and tomorrow we’re hitting up Houston’s first Food Truck Festival.  The trucks’ offerings range from vegan to bbq to cake balls, and some of them sound so good! On Sunday, I’m planning to stop by the Urban Market Antique Show in midtown, and after all the indulging I’m hoping to find time for a much needed Define class.

A New Home…

This past weekend we had a great time in Chicago visiting family and our new city!  Chicago has so much to offer, and my sweet sister in law sums up many of the City’s best spots here.  (We missed the amazing dessert place, but I’m dying to try it!)

Our goal for the weekend was to find a place to live in Evanston, walking distance from Northwestern University and public transportation.  After looking at a few places that didn’t really offer everything we wanted, we found a great rental in a beautiful building shown below.  The cherry blossoms certainly add to it’s charm, and most importantly it has heated parking in the winter.  Who even knew such things existed?

Hope you’ll come visit in our new place!

Anthropologie Wallpaper

Oh my cuteness!  Have you see Anthropologie’s wallpaper collection?   I love it!   My favorite is the Woods Wallpaper…It’s so versatile and could be used anywhere from a nursery to a dining room.  It looks super similar to the Cole and Son version which you can see in the rooms  below:

My other top choices are the Cranesbill Castle and the Dotsworld shown below:
